Hi, my name is Tita and we've been working with a Mexican artisan community from Central Mexico for two years now. It's been a wonderful experience and I would like to share some information about this beautiful tradition.
Artisans from Central Mexico produce beautiful filigree items, an exquisite product of gold and silver smithing. Filigree is made by melting the metal to produce threads which are used to make different designs and needs to be reheated many times while the piece is being worked. Gold is also used and so semiprecious stones.
All jewelry is laminated, embossed and engraved, which means items are lightweight and move graciously while you walk.
Frida Kahlo, Dolores del Río and often bought this style.
